BHS Travel Program Overview
(Click the program overview button above for our intro video!)
Eight years ago, our foreign language teacher, myself, and Coach Bryan Campbell organized a trip to New Orleans, Louisiana with the intent that it would be a one-off cross-curricular trip for about 40 students. Instead, it developed into a passion to expand opportunities for travel to as many students and parents as possible.
As part of a grant program that several of us were a part of prior to our student travel trips, we were fortunate enough to take off for a week somewhere around the country during the summer as part of our professional development. These trips were incredibly formative for us as teachers and served as the catalyst for what we wanted to share with others. Students and parents have since expressed that making these real-world connections through participating in our previous trips has been invaluable for them as well.
Although we have been traveling within the country for the past 7 years, we are now expanding to international travel as well. Each trip is planned roughly a year and a half to two years out. Our domestic and international trips all run through EF Educational Tours (EF stands for Education First). Each trip is virtually all-inclusive including airline tickets, food, and entrance fees to all museums, attractions, and events. Our year-round fundraising efforts have helped individual students as well as entire families travel to places for prices cheaper than they would have paid on their own.
Also, we have been trained by EF on both domestic and international tour leadership, having been sent to places like China, New York City, and Spain to deepen our knowledge and skills on how to effectively and safely lead student groups through large and small cities alike. Our travel team, myself, Bryan Campbell, and Patrick Cornell have extensive travel experience and absolutely love what we do.
We have become passionate about the idea of student travel and experiential learning. We believe that when given the opportunity to travel to the locations on our itineraries, students will return with a deeper sense of appreciation for the world around them.
We'd love to answer any questions that may come up as you make your way through the website. Thanks for checking out our program and look forward to hopefully having you on a future trip!
